چکیده
Abstract Background Pretreatments are commonly used to facilitate the deconstruction of lignocellulosic biomass its component sugars and aromatics. Previously, we showed that iron ions can be as co-catalysts reduce severity dilute acid pretreatment biomass. Transgenic iron-accumulating Arabidopsis rice plants exhibited higher content in grains, increased yield, importantly, enhanced sugar release from Results In this study, intracellular ferritin (FerIN) alone combination with an improved version cell wall-bound carbohydrate-binding module fused iron-binding peptide (IBPex) specifically targeting switchgrass, a bioenergy crop species. The FerIN switchgrass by 15% height 65% whereas FerIN/IBPex transgenics enhancement up 30% 115% yield. had 27% 51% planta accumulation than empty vector (EV) control, respectively, under normal growth conditions. Improved pretreatability was observed (~ 14% more glucose EV), further 24%. Conclusions We conclude strategy transferred model applied crops, such switchgrass. intra- extra-cellular incorporation approach improves digestibility, providing upgraded feedstocks for production biofuels bioproducts.

Expression of ZmGA20ox cDNA alters plant morphology and increases biomass production of switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.)
Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is considered a model herbaceous energy crop for the USA, for its adaptation to marginal land, low rainfall and nutrient-deficient soils; however, its low biomass yield is one of several constraints, and this might be rectified by modulating plant growth regulator levels. In this study, we have determined whether the expression of the Zea mays gibberellin 20-ox...
متن کاملPollen Viability and Longevity of Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.)
Pollen is essential for seed production and serves as the primary means of gene flow in outcrossing species like switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.). There is a lack of information on basic pollen biology in switchgrass. This study investigated pollen viability, pollen longevity, and pollen size using different materials, including the tetraploid cultivar Alamo, the octoploid cultivar Cave-in-Roc...
متن کاملCarbohydrate and lignin partitioning in switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) biomass as a bioenergy feedstock
Approaching switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) as a multifunctional energy plant, it is important to comprehensively study the composition and partitioning of organic substances in the biomass. The character of carbohydrates and lignin concentration variation was assessed in switchgrass biomass cut at two maturity stages (heading and seed filling) in the first and second harvest years. Quality c...
متن کاملRust Diseases on Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum)
Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) is a perennial C 4 grass native to the central prairies of North America. Recent development of switchgrass as a sustainable biofuel feedstock has raised interest in diseases that could impact switchgrass, especially when grown under monoculture conditions. Among the known diseases of switchgrass, rust diseases are the most widespread and could potentially impact ...
متن کاملOverexpression of miR156 in switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) results in various morphological alterations and leads to improved biomass production
Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) has been developed into a dedicated herbaceous bioenergy crop. Biomass yield is a major target trait for genetic improvement of switchgrass. microRNAs have emerged as a prominent class of gene regulatory factors that has the potential to improve complex traits such as biomass yield. A miR156b precursor was overexpressed in switchgrass. The effects of miR156 ove...
